Off-Broadway's 59E59 gives shows a space for a pre-festival run ahead of the world's largest arts festival.

New York, NY —59E59 Theaters kicks off this year's East to Edinburgh Festival programming in Theater C July 11. The Off-Broadway theatre gives shows a chance to have a test run ahead of crossing the Atlantic to play Scotland's Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August. The East to Edinburgh Festival runs through July 30.

Along with the short preview run, East to Edinburgh gives productions a chance to do raise money for their Fringe runs. Read about how the Edinburgh Fringe actually inspired the founding of 59E59 and how it continues to be a part of the Off-Broadway theatre in this interview with Artistic Director Val Day and Managing Director Brian Beirne.

This year's productions include solo shows JJ Pyle's How to Find a Husband in 37 Years or Longer; Christian Hege's Alexander Klaus, The One-Legged Shoemaker Man; Ricky Sim's Coming Out to Dead People; Zoë Kim's Did You Eat? (밥 먹었니?); Kayla Boye's Call Me ElizabethDorothy Lyman's Violet and Me; Kristina DeGiovanni's The Temp; and Dennis Elkins' blood(line).

Others include Shortlist by Fringe First-winning playwright Brian Parks; the time-traveling romp The Mrs. DeWinters; The Rosenberg/Strange Fruit Project directed by Fringe First winner Margarett Perry; A24 horror-meets-tragicomedy Ivories; and a dark comedic commentary on being a woman in 2023 in The Leading Lady Club.

“This trust in and collaboration with indie theatre makers who are known for producing thought-provoking work has increased our ability to present wider scope of work. I'm always looking for surprises, humor, or something that tells a story in ways that I've never seen before, and this season gives us exactly that," said Artistic Director Val Day.
